How to ensure a stress-free kitchen renovation

For many homes, the kitchen is deemed as the ‘hub’ of the house and where people spend most of their time. If you’re thinking of transforming the space, here are some tips to get you started:

Management

Firstly, you need to decide whether you’ll manage the project yourself or hire an architect to design and manage the renovation project.

Measure

Measure everything within your current kitchen and dining space including fitted furniture, windows and doors. If you’re not a whizz with a measuring tape, ask for assistance.

Research

Choosing your new kitchen is a huge decision that may take time. Make sure you look at ideas and get inspiration to create your dream kitchen. You may want to meet with kitchen design companies or an interior designer.

Design

Once you have done this research, it is important to get the design right. Give the experts your plan and be open to suggestions and amendments. They’ll most likely have some great ideas you haven’t considered.

Budget

Depending on your budget, it may be suitable to create a detailed breakdown of the costs for renovating your kitchen. This will allow you to cut costs where you may have overspent.

Schedule

You’ll need to set a schedule to ensure you don’t lose track of the project. How long will the renovation take? What can overlap? When will items arrive? Add all of these to a spreadsheet and agree it with everyone involved.

Lists

List are brilliant for all the little jobs that are still left to be finished. Make a list of all these to make it quicker and easier to agree a date for completion.

Test

Before you get comfortable in your kitchen, test all your new appliances and fittings to make sure everything is working properly. This ranges from the boiler to bins and plug sockets.

Relax

Enjoy what you have created and celebrate!
